March's Devotion: Saint Joseph
Since the 16th century Catholic piety has assigned entire months to special devotions. Due to the solemnity of Saint Joseph on March 19, this month is devoted to this great saint, the foster father of Christ. "It greatly behooves Christians, while honoring the Virgin Mother of God, constantly to invoke with deep piety and confidence her most chaste spouse, Saint Joseph. We have a well grounded conviction that such is the special desire of the Blessed Virgin herself." --Pope Leo XIII Prayer: FOR OUR WORK Glorious Saint Joseph, pattern of all who are devoted to toil, obtain for me the grace to toil in the spirit of penance, in order thereby to atone for my many sins; to toil conscientiously, putting devotion to duty before my own inclinations; to labor with thankfulness and joy, deeming it an honor to employ and to develop, by my labor, the gifts I have received from Almighty God; to work with order, peace, moderation, and patience, without ever shrinking from weariness and difficulties; to work above all with a pure intention and with detachment from self, having always before my eyes the hour of death and the accounting which I must then render of time ill-spent, of talents unemployed, of good undone, and of my empty pride in success, which is so fatal to the work of God. All for Jesus, all through Mary, all in imitation of thee, 0 Patriarch Joseph! This shall be my motto in life and in death. Amen. OFFERING TO SAINT JOSEPH O great Saint Joseph, thou generous depositary and dispenser of immortal riches, behold us prostrate at thy feet, imploring thee to receive us as thy servants and as thy children. Next to the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, of which thou art the faithful copy, we acknowledge that there is no heart more tender, more compassionate than thine. What, then, have we to fear, or, rather, for what should we not hope, if thou dost deign to be our benefactor, our master, our model, our father and our mediator? Refuse not, then, this favor, O powerful protector! We ask it of thee by the love thou hast for Jesus and Mary. Into thy hands we commit our souls and bodies, but above all the last moments of our lives. May we, after having honored, imitated, and served thee on earth, eternally sing with thee the mercies of Jesus and Mary. Amen. FOR THE INTERCESSION OF SAINT JOSEPH O Joseph, virgin-father of Jesus, most pure spouse of the Virgin Mary, pray every day for us to the same Jesus, the Son of God, that we, being defended by the power of His grace and striving dutifully in life, may be crowned by Him at the hour of death. From the Assembly Color Corps Commander:
Assembly 4 Sir Knights,
1. There is still opportunity to purchase the uniform at "Knights Gears' reduced prices
2. There is a cutoff for wear of the current uniform
3. There is only one 4th Degree lapel pin allowed for wear (I have seen many different worn)
4. Social Baldrics will not have a future with this uniform
The reduced price may be extended which make me question, how can they reduce the price if they do not make any money on the item? If they reduce the price below cost, who is paying for that? I have not yet heard of purchasing separates (Jacket or slacks separate from the complete package) since none of us will gain or lose weight over the next 30 years - right? Lynch and Kelly or an alternate supplier is spoke about. I expect at least one other supplier. What about returns?? Anyway, 5 of your fellow Assembly Brothers have told me they are purchasing so we are almost at the Honor Guard level! So we will continue to support when called.
From the District Marshal:
Worthies,
Please see email from the District Master and attachment from the VSM. As many of you know they are enforcing the June 30, 2018 date for the Regalia. Those who wish to participate in a Color Corps, must wear the New Regalia.
Some key items:
For members who wish to join the 4th degree, only a dark suit, dark tie, black shoes, and white shirt will be required going forward, this could possibly be big for recruiting.
Members of the exemplification team will be required to either purchase the new regalia or use the ceremonial gowns.
Social Baldric will no longer be worn after the cutoff date and current regalia will not be worn either.
Supreme is considering extending the discount.
If you have any questions regarding anything mentioned in my email, the District Master's or the VSM's, please feel free to contact me.
Please feel free to send to your members.
From the District Master:
Worthies,
Attached is a letter I just received from VSM Ruh reference a conference call he was on today with Supreme Master Stoddard. Please read this and pass this information along to your membership. There has been must discussion and negative comments concerning the new uniform - after reading this letter, feel free to express your opinions, in a respectful manner, to the Supreme Master. We are at a major crossroads for the 4th degree, the introduction of the new uniform is having a major impact on the order, unfortunately in a negative way. I ask that you keep the core principles of the order in mind and ask your members to use their heads and not their emotions in their actions. As always, thank you all for what you do for the order and the church - I am always available to answer questions.
